Born to Be Wild - Scrap The Boys July Challenge

Some exciting news...Wendy allowed me to extend my stay on the Scrap The Boys DT...So happy to be apart of the new team...

This months challenge theme was 'Big Boys Toys'
I had the perfect picture of Andy when we were at the
4KQ Special Christmas Party.

Born To Be Wild

Andy was lucky enough to be allowed to sit on one of the huge motorbikes they had for the children to sit on.
He was very excited.

Here are some close ups...

(Shock Horror.....) Yep...I did some journaling...

here I used the negative from the Scrapmatts chevrons...

What boys page isnt complete without cogs???

to highlight the thickers I went around the edge with a white pen.

Make sure you get your entries on the Scrap the Boys blog by the 31st of July to be in the running to win a great prize!

Bros. - June Mad About Scrappin Challenge Layout

Mad about Scrappin has a great Sketch this month created by Amy Prior! This is the sketch...

And here is what I came up with...

Bros.

As you can see I turned the sketch to suit the photo I wanted to use for this layout. I used the Echo Park paper range 'Summer Bliss' that I got from Mad About Scrappin.

some close ups...

I used some washi, the banner stickers from the elements sheet from the range, red gemstones and the 'happy' scrapword from Scrapmatts.

The element stickers also have great alphas so I used them for the title, to make it stand out a little more i went around the edges with a black marker
I also wanted to use the 'fun in the sun' sticker so I covered a peg in washi tape and pegged it on.

I love this lil cluster of embellishments! as you can tell by my work I dont go 'overboard' with the embellishments on my layouts...here I have used a flair button from Greatest View, the flower there was originally white and i sprayed it with different yellow mists to get the colour i wanted. I have used a scrapmatts border and inked it red and a charms creations mini runner.

You have until the end of this month to get your entries in for this sketch challenge so get scrappin and have a go!

Everything is Awesome - from The Lego Movie
Both the boys love it still so I thought why not :)

Scrapmatts Shadow Boxes

This month I was lucky enough to join the Scrapmatts team at the Brisbane Scrapbook and Papercraft Expo. I had heaps of fun meeting lots of people in the industry and Facebook friends.
I created a few Shadow Boxes that were on display along with many other great creations from others on the DT.
Here is what I created....

Baby Keepsake Box

When i saw the design of this shadow box I knew exactly what i wanted to do with it...create a keepsake of my first born, Andrew.

I was able to place one of his socks, along with the birth announcement and one of his hospital bracelets.
I used banners to display his name

I also added his details from his birth like time, weight and length to the left side window. The Scrapmatts Pram works really well for the theme of this shadow box too.

Shadow Box Calendar

I thought it would be an awesome idea to turn this shadow box into a calendar. It was pretty easy to do, by attaching wire to the frame i was able to use tiny pegs to attach the printed calendar (which can also be updated every year)

Cogs are great for male themed projects, I embossed them with different coloured powders and also added a clock charm also from Scrapmatts.

I love this little cluster of chipboard, the Chevrons work well to add a pop of colour under the scrap words.

 James Dean Shadow Box

The story behind how this box came about was a lil funny. Anne, Renee and I were sent some images from Scrapmatts. I was wracking my brain over what we could do with the movie camera image...i was thinking of a photo of my Father in Law at first as he has been a cameraman for many years, but then I thought what a great idea to use a 'movie star'. James Dean was chosen as the camera is an old style vintage looking one and James Dean was the first star to pop into my head!

The shadow box frames are great to stamp on, using black ink and the diamond shaped stamp I was able to get this effect.
Washi tape fits perfectly around the Shadow boxes too which is handy to know if your going to create one ;)

What a Catch - June Scrap The Boys Challenge

Hope everyone is doing well this weekend. Today Im sharing with you my layout I created for Scrap The Boys this month. The challenge was to create a layout using a photo 5x7 or bigger.
I decided to use an 8x10 for my layout. Ive never used a photo of that size before, so it was a real challenge, but I really like the end result
 (and so does Andrew!)

What a Catch

This layout started with a blank piece of white cardstock. I loved the black and red from the photo and thought a pop of red here and there would look good.
I started by using some Dylusions and randomly sprayed Slate Gray over the white cardstock.
Next I made splats using my Tim Holtz Distress Stain in Black Slate.
I then used my Prima Stencil to crete the chevron pattern using white texture paste.
I was going to stop there but felt it needed something more and decided to use one of my kaiser background stamps and Jet Black Ranger Archival Ink.
The edges looked a little plain so I ripped Brick patterned Washi Tape and stuck that all around the edge as a border.
Next i grabbed cordinating Washi tapes and stuck them down, matted my photo on red and used a border punch along the top and stuck that down...embellished using a Purple Pumpkin round, a seahorse charm from My2Angels, Scrapmatts chipboard, Thickers, Motex, and a Flair Button from Greatest View!

This is a close up of the embellishment cluster I created...

Thanks for looking, dont forget there is still plenty of time to create and enter the Scrap The Boys challenge for this month!
